Camino

The Camino Project has released a first beta for version 2.1 of its open source web browser for Mac OS X. According to Camino Team Coordinator Samuel Sidler, this second preview release of Camino 2.1 introduces several notable improvements and enhances support for web standards.
Camino 2.1, like Firefox 3.6, is based on version 1.9.2 of Mozilla's Gecko web rendering platform. Aimed at testers and early adopters, the first beta offers improved control over plug-ins and a new history backend; autocomplete in the location bar has also been completely "overhauled" and the ability to hide the status bar has been added. Users testing the release are encouraged to provide feedback and reportany bugs that they find.
Further information about this first beta, including a full list of changes, can be found in the official release announcementand in the release notes. Camino 2.1 Beta 1 is available to download for Mac OS X 10.4 and later. Users already running the Camino nightly builds should be notified of the preview release via the built-in software update mechanism.
The Camino Project is almost as old as Firefox; the main difference is that the user interface is based on Cocoa instead of XUL to better tailor Camino to the Mac operating system. Camino source code is released under theMPL/LGPL/GPL tri-license. The latest stable release is Camino 2.0.7, a maintenance and security update from March.
