ICC Test Rankings

England's continuing dominance of world number one India in the ongoing Test series is beginning to reflect in the ICC rankings as well with several of their players rising to career-best positions in the list released on Tuesday.
Down 0-2 in the four-match series, India's players, with the exception of Rahul Dravid (up four places to 11th) and Sachin Tendulkar (up one place to third), either slipped or just about to managed to hold on to their places.

Dravid, who made his second consecutive Test match hundred of the series, continued his climb up the rankings and is on the verge of breaking back into the top 10, with his best batting rating since India's last Test series in England in 2007.

But VVS Laxman slipped a couple of rungs to ninth in the batting chart, while Ishant Sharma lost a spot to be eighth in the bowling list.

India is in fact in real danger of losing the numero uno spot to England as a win of two clear Tests in the four-match series (2-0 or 3-1) will see Andrew Strauss's men topple the visitors. The table is updated only at the end of each series.

For England, Ian Bell broke into the top five after recording a career-high batting rating following his 159 against India in the second Test at Trent Bridge, the ICC said in a statement.

Stuart Broad's all-round heroics helped him climb to third in the all-rounder rankings, while he has also jumped to seventh in the bowling table following match figures of 8-76.

Bell, who recorded his fourth century in the space of six Test Matches, has achieved a new career-high rating and is just 16 rating points behind England and county teammate Jonathan Trott, who has slipped two places to fourth.

Matt Prior (21st), Stuart Broad (44th) and Tim Bresnan (joint 75th) have also achieved new career-high ratings following England's 319-run victory.

However, it is not all good news for England's batters as Alastair Cook has slipped six places to 11th following a disappointing series in which he has made just 20 runs in four innings.

Tim Bresnan has risen 14 places in the bowling rankings, following his first five-wicket Test haul, which put him 25th on the list, while his innings of 90 in the second innings has helped him rise to 13th in the all-rounder standings.

CITI

    Sania Mirza
Sania Mirza won her third WTA doubles title of the season and 12th overall as she and Yaroslava Shvedova pipped Olga Govortsova of Belarus and Alla Kudryavtseva ofRussia in the final of the Citi Open.

Defending their top billing, the Indo-Kazakh pair overcame their second seed opponents 6-3, 6-3 after one hour and five minutes struggle.

Sania paired with Yaroslava for this tournament since her regular Tour partner Elena Vesnina decided to skip the event.

She had triumphed at Indian Wells and Charleston with Vesnina and fell in the final of the French Open.

Sania and Yaroslova provided umpteen opportunities to their rivals but prevented damage by saving eight break chances in the second set.

The winners shared $11,000 and earned 280 ranking points each.

Brandon Marshall

Brandon Marshall knows he has it all: NFL riches, a smart, lovely wife, a beautiful home, a great life — everything anyone could want. But it wasn’t enough. It was never enough.
“I haven't enjoyed not one part of it, and it's hard for me to understand why,” Marshall, 27, said. He grew increasingly unhappy and, after analtercation with his wife Michi Nogami-Marshall in April caused him to be hospitalized with a stab wound and her to be jailed, it was time to find out what was happening.
The answer is that the Miami Dolphins’ wide receiver has borderline personality disorder and, instead of concealing that fact, he’s choosing to “be the face of BPD.” Marshall talked publicly about it over the weekend, telling the Sun-Sentinel: “I'll make myself vulnerable if it saves someone's life because I know what I went through this summer helped save mine.”

Marshall had had counseling several times before. This time, at the suggestion of Dolphins teammate Ricky Williams, Marshall sought help at McLean Hospital in Boston. “This is the most stigmatized disorder out there, but yet it's very treatable and with the right help, the right treatment program, the right treaters, one diagnosed with BPD, can live a healthy, effective, peaceful life,” Marshall said.
Through treatment, he is learning to handle his feelings and emotions. “By no means am I all healed or fixed,” he said, “but it’s like a light bulb’s been turned on in my dark room.”
BPD is rarely diagnosed; it is marked by difficulties with relationships, poor self-image and difficulty controlling moods and emotions. Marshall has spoken about his troubled childhood and abandonment and abuse can contribute to BPD. “BPD is a well understood psychological disorder," Mary Zanarini, a Harvard Medical School psychology professor who treated Marshall, said. “It's not a form of misbehavior.”
Marshall met daily with clinicians and fellow BPD patients. “Any time there’s conflict it’s a challenge,” Marshall said. “What I’m feeling or trying to get across is right, but I’m reacting wrong. My actions or what I’m saying is not effective or productive and it makes the situation worse.”
His role as the face of BPD involves a movie: “Brandon Marshall: Borderline Beast.”
“It wasn’t ’til I got here that I understood why I was so unhappy, why I was so miserable,” Marshall said. “But understanding is merely the beginning of the journey.”

Hearts

Hearts manager Jim Jefferies and his assistant Billy Brown have reportedly been removed from their positions at the club.

Sky Sports and STV suggest that 60-year-old Jeffries has been offered a role as director of football of the club by owner Vladimir Romanov, but he is expected to turn the position down.
Hearts' defeat at home by Dundee United on Sunday meant that the team has not won a league match since March 19, taking the winless run 11 games.

Jefferies returned to Tynecastle in January 2010 for a second spell at the club after managing the side for five years from 1995.

STV report that current first team coach Gary Locke has been offered the opportunity to take charge of the side on an interim basis.

Braylon Edwards

Santonio Holmes, Sidney Rice, Santana Moss, Mike Sims-Walker, Lance Moore, Plaxico Burress, Donte Stallworth, Steve Breaston, Roy Williams, Johnnie Lee Higgins.
Those are just a few of the free agent wide receivers who have re-signed with their current teams or latched on elsewhere in this condensed NFL offseason.
One prominent name not on that list is New York Jets free agent wideout Braylon Edwards.
The Jets signed Burress over the weekend, effectively ending any speculation they might resign Edwards and leaving the 2007 Pro Bowl selection to ponder his future.
The lack of activity is clearly wearing on Edwards, who apparently is now reading Leo Tolstoy to deal with the dead time.
Multiple teams are rumored to be in the mix for Edwards including theArizona Cardinals, Washington Redskins, Tennessee Titans andMinnesota Vikings. But so far, no one has landed the mercurial wideout who will likely demand something close to the five-year, $50 million contract former teammate Santonio Holmes got in New York.
Late last month Edwards pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated after a Sept. 21 arrest in Manhattan.

Borderline Personality Disorder

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Brandon Marshall has been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, a mental condition marked by difficulties with relationships, poor self-image and problems controlling moods and emotions.
Borderline personality disorder is rarely diagnosed but studies say it is more common than schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.
Marshall has said that even though he had a $50-million football contract and a beautiful wife, he was not happy.
After a domestic dispute with his wife in April landed him in the hospital with a stab wound and her in jail, he knew he needed intense treatment.
Marshall went to McLean Hospital in Boston, where he met with clinicians and other borderline personality disorder patients for four hours a day. He spent three months there receiving treatment.
"It wasn't till I got here that I understood why I was so unhappy, why I was so miserable," Marshall told the Sun-Sentinel. "But understanding is merely the beginning of the journey."
Marshall has decided to go public with his mental illness in hopes of bringing attention to the disorder and helping others who suffer from it. He has been filming a documentary called "Borderline Beast" that shows his struggles.
"I'll be the face of BPD," Marshall said. "I'll make myself vulnerable if it saves someone's life because I know what I went through this summer helped save mine."

Osim Triathlon

    Osim Triathlon
First time participant Sato Harunobu is the first ever Japanese winner of the Elite category of the 10th OSIM Singapore International Triathlon held at the East Coast Park on Sunday with a timing of 1 hour 51 minutes and 59 seconds.

The 32 year old Sato, came from behind to win after entering the running leg 2 mins and 33 seconds behind Namibia's Louw Abrahm, who eventually finished 2nd in a timing of 1:52:51.

Besides, the fact that this is his first trip to Singapore and the win was even sweeter because his only win came in eight years ago in Makayama, Japan.

An elated Sato said in delight, "I am really happy to win after such a long time; in fact, i was questioning myself if I could ever win again. I was actually 2nd after the cycling leg but i ran one of my best ever to win this race. This will not be possible without all the Japanese people living in Singapore that came down to support me and I will like to dedicate this win to them and all the victims in Japan's tsunami tragedy earlier this year."

"Actually, on Friday shortly after I arrived, I surveyed the course while I was doing my bike training; I came up with a race plan with my roommate, Tsubaki, and we felt that we had a very strong chance of winning, I am glad that our plan to conserve energy for the running leg worked," he shared.

Runner up, Louw Abrahm, was gracious in defeat, saying, "What can i say? Sato was amazing in the running leg. I just wished I was able to maintain my lead but he was amazing. He is a nice guy and a fierce competitor and I like to congratulate him."

In the Women's Elite Category, usual triathlon powerhouse Australia swept the podium with Lisa Marangon, Courtney Gilfillan and Chloe Turner coming in with first, second and third respectively.

Champion, Lisa Marangon, a single mum of an 11 year old boy, said, "I have been competing in triathlon events for 9 years and I finally got my first win in an official ITU event."

"I had difficulties in the swim leg and found it hard to get into the rhythm but today was a perfect day for cycling though it got a little hot in the running leg."

She adds, "I wake up at 4.30am every day to train and I hope to be a professional triathlete in future. This win is dedicated to my very supportive friends and family back home."

Winner of the Male 25-29 age group category and Singapore's fastest Ironman, Mr Willie Loo, a 28 year old business owner said, "Today's water conditions weren't very good as the water was very choppy and this posed as a difficulty to all the participants. I'm glad I managed to pull through and am very happy about coming first in my category again."

Winner of the Female 25-29 age group category, Sumiko Tan, 26 year old teacher said, "I'm satisfied with my timing and am glad that I was able to be the first out of the water. However, my cycling was weak but I managed to catch up in the run. Overall I'm very happy with my performance."

The 10th OSIM Singapore International Triathlon was attended by about 1600 participants between the ages of 18 - 76 years old took part in Sunday's Olympic Distance races, a significant increase of 20% from last year's numbers.

Triathlon President Mark Tay, who has overseen all 10 years of the event, said, "It is just amazing to oversee an event for 10 years. I've seen the sport grow from 300 plus participants in 2002 to nearly 4000 for the past few years."

"Every year, we focus to make the race safer and more enjoyable and this year, we had no serious incident at all. What's more, the weather is great and I see a lot of new faces in the kids category and the Olympic Distance. This shows that the sport of Triathlon has truly come of age."

"Lastly, I like to thank Mr Ron Sim and OSIM International for their continuous support over the past 10 years to make the event so successful," added Mr Tay.
